A dynamic cast of 15 acrobats and five musicians transport us to a village in Vietnam with a rare mix of modern cirque, contemporary dance, live music and the ingenious use of bamboo, rattan props and baskets. Years 7-13
Làng Phố, which translates as village-city contrasts scenes of heritage and agriculture with the restless sights and sounds of 21st century society. As this quiet hamlet is dramatically transformed into a bustling city, traditional Vietnamese music (Cai Luong) gives way to hip hop. The chaotic energy of Vietnam’s rapid modernisation is captured through a dynamic, visually rich stage language that speaks to all audiences.
Feats of juggling, contortion and aerial work take on a spectacular new form with the aid of bamboo - the signature aesthetic of Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam as well as through a new innovation, the woven basket. In the hands of such artful entertainers, these humble objects become characters in themselves.
Full of laughter, personality, thrills and imagination, the charming new work by French Vietnamese company Nouveau Cirque du Vietnam has won audiences over around the world with its enchanting reinvention of the traditional circus act.
