Celebrate songwriting of the highest calibre with this rare triple bill headlined by 2019 APRA Silver Scroll Award winner Aldous Harding.
Aldous Harding is back at Auckland Arts Festival after captivating audiences in 2018. One of contemporary music’s most remarkable voices, she continues to create waves throughout the world. Among 2019’s best albums, her critically-acclaimed Designer – which includes the Silver Scroll-winning ‘The Barrel’ – follows up the hypnotic Party with even more “fascinating and frightening, highly eccentric and blisteringly beautiful” songs (Q Magazine, ★★★★★).
American psychedelic-folk artist Weyes Blood, aka Natalie Mering, is in stiff competition with Harding for the album of the year mantle with her latest release, Titanic Rising. A spellbinding performer and songwriter whose storytelling is “steeped in the magic stuff of fantasies and daydreams” (NPR), Mering’s sound evokes artists as varied as the Kinks, Enya, Hoagy Carmichael, Brian Eno and Joni Mitchell. An enchanting, buzzworthy talent.
Harding’s Flying Nun label mates Purple Pilgrims carry the songwriting torch through a mesmerising dreamscape of celestial pop, folk and atmospheric jazz. Hailing from Christchurch, the magnetic sister duo of Clementine and Valentine Nixon have transported the dream-pop genre into earthy, textural realms, and completes this stellar all-female line-up as a rising star of the local and international indie scene.
This is a mixed standing/seated concert.
